Report a death

Please accept our condolences for your loss. We know this is a difficult time so we’ll do everything we can to make dealing with us as straightforward as possible.

You can notify us of the death of one of our members using the online form below. Alternatively, you might prefer to contact us by telephone. Our member services team are on hand to give you all the help you need.

What you’ll need now:

• The member’s BTPS membership number or National Insurance Number
• The member’s full name and date of birth
• The date the member passed away
• Your name, address and email address, or those of the appropriate representative of the member’s estate, so that we can respond and provide further information.

What would help to know now:

• Details of the member’s spouse or civil partner
• If the member was not married or in a civil partnership, details of any individual who was financially dependent on the member and may be eligible for dependant benefits
• Details of any children, including those under age 18, those aged 18 to 23 who are in full-time education, and any incapacitated children of any age

After you have notified us of the member’s death, your form will be reviewed by one of our pension administrators. We will then contact you or the appropriate representative of the estate with further information, including any details you may need for tax purposes.
